Bali Culture

Welcome to the island of Bali, an island with a diversity of unique cultural features. We, Bali Budaya, supported by the residents of Banjar Batusepih, invite you to explore and enjoy the values of today’s traditional Balinese farming life.

Bali Budaya, established in 1983, is a family cooperative that accommodates the sculptors in Banjar Batusepih and its surrounding areas.

In addition, Bali Budaya, which is located on a block of land of almost 2 hectares in area, as well as the business interest, also houses the Balinese traditional home of I Wayan Sila family.

Supported bythe community and its natural environment, Bali Budaya has developed itself into an organizer of tourism activities related to Balinese customs and culture, especially those activities involving Balinese traditional farming.

Bearing those concepts in mind, it is hoped that a mutual symbiotic relationship will be developed between tourists and the locals. Tourists will learn new insights regarding today’s life of the Balinese traditional farmers, which is our day-to-day life, while our local community will enjoy the direct economic and educational effects of the programs without losing the cultural roots of traditional farming.

Om Shanti Santhi Santhi Om.

Performance Art

Lila Budaya
This program is suitable for those who are interested in learning more about Balinese Art Performances, particularly Balinese dance and music performances.
This activity is designed in the form of short courses, both private or in a class, where you will learn the symbolic meanings of Balinese art performances.
The tutors are practicing dance artists and musicians involved in Balinese traditional performing arts.

BARONG SUNDA UPASUNDA

Barong Sunda Upasunda is a dance and drama performance about twin kings living harmoniously in a kingdom called Surayana. However, their harmonious life collapsed when both kings were seduced by the beautiful Diah Menaka, an angel sent by the god Shiva.

Sunda Upasunda story is taken from the Mahabharata epic. It is a tale told by Goddess Kunti to her five sons (PancaPendawa), advising them of the importance of always maintaining the harmony in the family.

The entire show is presented by dancers and musicians from Banjar Batusepih and its surrounding areas.

Pilgrimage or Spiritual Healing
MELUKAT

Melukat, the spiritual cleansing ritual, is a very important ritual for the Hindus in Bali. It is conducted on an auspicious day, such as Kajeng Kliwon (a day in the Balinese calendar which is believed to have magical power), purnama (full moon) and tilem (new moon).
The ritual is commenced by washing one’s body and hair at one of the holy water springs in Bali, such as Tirta Empul Temple, followed by praying at the temple of the spring.
Melukat requires a particular offering called pejati, which means ‘determined heart’. The next step is visiting a pemangku (priest) or pedanda (high priest) to seek their blessing.

On special occasions, mebayuh ritual, which aims to neutralize the negative aspects in human beings, is conducted at the same time.

In Bali, melukat is normally conducted collectively on Banyupinaruh day, the day after Saraswati (a day specially dedicated to worship Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, music, arts, science and technology).

SPIRITUAL JOURNEY

We also design special programs for those who want to experience the Balinese Hindu spiritual journey. The programs are available in packages.

ODALAN

Temple Anniversary Celebration
At Banjar Batusepih and its surrounding area, there are approximately 15 large and small temples. Each temple has its own anniversary date, which falls every 6 months. Therefore the schedule of this program will be adjusted to suit the schedule of the temples’ anniversaries.
This program lasts for two days, and you will be fully involved in every aspect of a Hindu religious ceremony in Bali, from the preparation phase until the end of the ceremony.
We hope that this program will bring you to a spiritual journey that you have never yet experienced.
